The winter full moon is always the most dependable and the strongest because of the crispness of the air and because of its position high in the sky throughout much of the night. One Christmas holiday there was a spectacular moon. I headed out away from city lights and in search of haystacks and, as is often the case when one has a particular goal in mind, I photographed something completely different. I remember that it was so bright that night that I was able to see to write in my notebook by moonlight alone.
