Tiny Apple Core
Durham, North Carolina
20x24 inch mounted C-print

2009

This apple was a particularly tiny one in an otherwise normal bag. It was almost a shame to cut into it, but I was glad I did as it got more and more interesting the longer the core was allowed to desiccate there on the cutting board. Most kitchen scenes have required similar wait times of several days before they reached the sine qua non of their compositional intrigue. Exposing the film for several minutes or even hours in very dim light causes the scene to render with a very different visual vocabulary than if it had been photographed quickly in strong light.
