Diptych detail

Fluid. Clear. Shapeless. Illusive. Peaceful. Chaotic. Water is transformative.

This diptych explores the beauty of and mystery behind water. Capturing a single moment in time, the two photographs show the powerful intervention of color on an otherwise lifeless subject. I used bright dyes to create compositions with color in water. By linking the two images with similar hues, the fleeting frames became everlasting moments.

Through this work, I explored the different states of our emotions as experienced through the energetic yet serene waves of water. The powerful images work together to expose what would otherwise be hidden to the naked eye. The upright horizon in the top photograph juxtaposed with the inverted horizon in the bottom photograph constrains the water's impact and leads the viewer to think. The strength of the water resonates within us all as fires erupt from the still photographs.
