30x40 inch mounted metallic C-print
2006
This was one of my early forays into shooting with an old 8x10 view camera,
which allows very precise focus while the rest of the scene seems to swirl
and blend into the atmosphere. As is often the case, I saw this scene
after I had packed up my gear for the night and was ready to leave. I
had parked in an abandoned lot, and when I started the car and turned
my headlights on, this was the scene before me. I couldn't leave this
scene behind so I unpacked my gear for a little more shooting. Car headlamps
are extremely bright light sources, of course, but even so, 8x10 cameras
need so much light to expose the film that it was an still an exposure
somewhere in the 6-minute range.
