The best opportunities often present themselves as you’re packing up your gear to leave. In the case of this photograph, I had made it all the way home after a very long night of shooting. When I stepped up onto my front porch, however, I triggered the porch’s motion light, which lit up the left side of the Ladybanks rosebush with its warm glow. When I saw that the soft bluish light of dawn was illuminating the right side, I had no choice but to unpack my gear….
