Concrete Tree

Human beings have an enormous tolerance for variations in light’s color spectrum. We often see the florescent, incandescent, or industrial lights around us as all being “neutral” in color. Film does not. Often in my night photographs, city skies turn magenta. This parking lot tree was lit by a light that looked white to my eye but clearly not to the film. It’s difficult not to see a metaphor here– the garish color the film sees being the reality of the real effect our light pollution has on the natural world.
