This was one of my early forays into shooting with an old 8×10 view camera, which allows very precise focus while the rest of the scene seems to swirl and blend into the atmosphere. As is often the case, I saw this scene after I had packed up my gear for the night and was ready to leave. I had parked in an abandoned lot, and when I started the car and turned my headlights on, this was the scene before me. I couldn’t leave this scene behind so I unpacked my gear for a little more shooting. Car headlamps are extremely bright light sources, of course, but even so, 8×10 cameras need so much light to expose the film that it was an still an exposure somewhere in the 6-minute range.
